León Ferrari (1920, Buenos Aires, Argentina) is one of the most prominent Argentinean conceptual artists.
His rich practice ranges from making ceramic works, wire sculptures, aquarelles, drawings, calligraphies, collages, paintings, sculptures, installations. All of his work questions the absolute principles of power, such as the normative force in the value system of religion, art, justice and state. Recurring themes in his works are also representation of woman, cultural construction of gender, war, sex, and eroticism.
Leon Ferrari was awarded the Gold Lion at the 52nd Venice Biennale, 2007.
From 1955 till present his works are shown widely; most recently in a group exhibition at MoMA, where a retrospective will take place in 2009, Documenta 12, 27th São Paulo Biennial, 7th Havana Biennial and many others important venues.His work is also in many public and private collections.
